Rory McIlroy

20-year old Rory McIlroy needs little introduction as his rise to fame and golfing fortune have been headline news all season. He comes to the Irish Open for the first time and has been immediately installed as one of the favourites to triumph on this wonderul links course at Baltray. Rory proved himself to be an outstanding links player when, as an amateur, he was very prominent on the British Open leaderboard at Carnoustie and it is a style of golf course that he relishes.

Since turning professional less that two years ago Rory has shot into the worlds top twenty, with several outstanding performances worldwide, including a win at the Dubai Desert Classic. He is currently ranked 18th only 11 places behind top Irish golfer, Padraig Harrington.

2009 Form

In nine tournaments so far this year, Rory has never failed to make the cut. He won the Dubai Desert Classic, won in 2008 by none other than, Tiger Woods. He has also finished in the top ten twice in the Abu Dhabi Championship and in the top rated WGC Accenture Match Play. He managed 13th place in the Honda Classic, plus he was an outstanding 20th in the US Masters, a position that has qualified him to play the event again next year.

Clearly Rory McIlroy is a young man with a huge future and he would certainly be one of those we would tip to go very close this week. We would even suggest that his odds of 12/1 in the Irish Open Betting should be snapped up quickly, by using an Irish Open Free bet.
