Irish Golf Players Padraig Harrington
Padraig Harrington is the number 1 Irish Golfer at present and is one of the best players in the world. He has over 11 tournamemnt wins but won his first 'major' Tournament in 2007 when he won the British Open Golf Betting after a play off with Sergio Garcia. Earlier that year he had also won the Irish Open at this venue. He is now one of the World's top golfers and is already being hailed as the greatest Irish golfer of all time.
Padraig's 2007 win at in the British Open at Carnoustie was the first 'major' Tournament victory by a European for 8 years and followed Paul Lawrie's success of 1999 at the same Tournament and at the same venue.
In 2006 and prior to his Open success, Padraig had won the European Order of Merit and in doing so showed the golfing world that it was the start of things to come. Padraig never likes to make things to easy for himself as he only just managed to fend off Paul Casey and David Howell to win the Order of Merit on the last hole of the very last tournament of the season. It seems that if you are a fan of Padraig, you will be booking yourself on a a roller-coaster of a golfing ride, as he appears never to be able to win Tournaments with any degree of ease. Its all exciting stuff though.
His Irish open defence last year was a disappointment for Padraig, he finished well down the order in 31st place and struggled with his putter. He will be hoping for much better in the Irish Open 2009.
